Position Summary The Performance Optimization Manager will lead engineers providing analytical support for Calpine’s 23 GW fleet of natural gas power facilities, covering all aspects of thermal performance. Responsibilities include the management and development of performance analytical tools that will be used to support plant business decisions for monitoring the heat rate and capability of generating assets, trending and improving plant performance, fleet economic dispatch and plant betterment. • Develop and maintain thermal performance monitoring tools for ongoing assessment of the natural gas fleet thermal performance. • Work closely with plant managers, turbine maintenance staff, commercial managers, and energy traders to understand plant operating characteristics to help optimize the profitability of the generating assets. • Identify and analyze performance issues and convey the implications for plant profitability. • Identify plant performance improvement opportunities and provide analysis for management decision-making. Generate reports of expected benefits including capacity, heat rate, availability, or production cost improvements. • Remain up-to-date on emerging power plant performance technologies and optimization tools and techniques. • Position reports to Vice President, Operation Analytics Skills and Relevant Experience • Experience in managing engineers • Experience with and working knowledge of gas-fired combined cycle and major equipment performance and operation particularly GE and • Siemens gas turbines • Knowledge of statistics • Proficiency with thermal performance modeling tools such as Gatecycle as well as the Microsoft Office suite of computer programs. Familiarity with performance measurement mechanics (such as OSI Pi and other database platforms) is preferred • Attractive backgrounds include work in plant engineering, development, engineering for OEMs, and work as an Independent Engineer Qualifications: • Minimum qualifications include bachelor’s degree in economics and/or engineering and 10 years or more of relevant experience • Good problem solving and analytical ability.
