Description

Mechanical Engineer-Material Handling Designer 

Pre-Sale Activities:

·         Assist Sales Engineering in conceptual layouts of systems to be proposed, including building layouts;

·         Assist Sales Engineering in due diligence (information gathering) for conveyor systems projects;

·         Concept and design electrical and pneumatic control systems functionality utilized in conveyor material handling projects, including scale systems, scanner systems, printer systems, etc.;

·         Accurately record time/expenses related to the proposal generation phase of projects;

·         Develop engineering bill of materials for proposal documentation;

·         Develop job cost summary for mechanical equipment and installation;

·         Assist in building proposal document;

·         Develop presentation media;

·         Assist in the development of the project execution schedule using MS Project;

·         Assist in and/or perform high level presentations of systems.

 

Post-Sale Activities:

·         Develop final equipment lists from approval drawings

·         Issue purchase orders for electrical equipment, engineering, and installation labor

·         Coordinate delivery of equipment from vendors

·         Review vendor acknowledgements/ASN's for correctness

·         Review vendor installation drawings and installation document package for correctness

·         Site supervision during installation and debug phases of project if required

·         Review vendor invoices for correctness

·         Develop as-built drawings and documentation package

·         Develop spare-parts lists, maintenance manuals, and operator training manuals

·         Develop and administer customer-operator training sessions

·         Develop and administer customer-maintenance training sessions

 



Job Requirements

 

 Mechanical Engineer- Material Handling Designer

 

 

2-year technical degree in mechanical engineering technology plus 8 years practical work experience in the industry, or:

4-year engineering/technical degree plus 6 years practical work experience in the industry.


Conveyor/Material Handling Design experience is a must.

 

Required Skill Sets:              

·         Working knowledge of AutoCAD, including 3-D drawing capabilities;

·         Working knowledge of spreadsheets and text document development software, i.e. Excel, Word, etc.;

·         Ability to readily learn and use vendor supplied design and pricing software packages;

·         Working knowledge of Microsoft Project or other project scheduling software packages;

·         Working knowledge of Microsoft Power Point, or other presentation software packages;

·         Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to properly apply conveyors and other mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic devices used in the transport, accumulation, and sortation of cartons, pallets, etc. commonly used in the material handling industry;

·         Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to design electrical and pneumatic control functionality for conveyor operations including PLC programming, bar code scanning technology, etc., commonly used in the material handling industry;

·         Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to design, install, and debug communications interfaces, host to PLC type, client-server type, and other communications interfaces commonly used in the material handling industry;

·         Must possess good organizational skills.  Drawings should be neat, orderly, and follow good engineering practices regarding scaling, notation, and convention; 

·         Must possess excellent written and oral skills;

·         Must have the ability to follow departmental procedures for developing

project numbers, drawing sets, project folders, document transmittals, etc.

·         Must be able to take direction from project managers and executive staff with regard to work schedules, priorities, work layout;

·         Ability to work independently once assigned tasks;

·         Effective time management skills;

·         Ability to work on tasks other than those associated with engineering functions;

·         Professional certification (PMP, MHP, PCMH) a plus:
