Senior Mechanical Engineer - Auto Systems

Job Description

Under direction, to plan, organize and direct the engineering work involved in the development of design specifications for transit vehicles (buses, autos, support vehicles) and in the performance evaluation of present vehicles; to provide technical advice and information to fleet maintenance management.

Minimum Qualifications
Employment Standards
Training and experience equivalent to graduation from college with major work in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or related field and five years of professional mechanical engineering experience in automotive systems or related field including experience in a capacity offering opportunity to demonstrate supervisory ability.

Registration as a professional Mechanical Engineer is required at the time of appointment.

Supplemental Information
Knowledge of:

The theory of methods, materials and equipment used in the design, maintenance operation and construction of automotive equipment;
Principles of supervision and training;
Design, operation and maintenance of shop and shop equipment;
Estimating costs;
Governmental regulations pertaining to the design and operation of vehicles.

Ability to:
Qualify for registration as a professional engineer in the State of California;
Supervise and review the work of others;
Analyze automotive engineering problems and work out effective solutions;
Perform design and layout work;
Prepare design specifications;
Prepare technical reports;
Stay current with changes in technology;
Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with those contacted in the course of work.
