Job Description

Growing contract manufacturer in San Diego County is seeking experienced and motivated well rounded Manufacturing Engineer to join Engineering team for the 2nd shift. The Manufacturing Engineer is a hands-on position responsible for providing technical expertise and ensuring the machines are running at optimum performance. The engineer will also provide support to needed in the Systems Integration and Wire & Cable departments.

Responsibilities:

Will direct and coordinate SMT manufacturing lines and processes.

Generate SMT and AOI programs utilizing offline software.

Create reflow profiles ensuring integrity of solder joints within internal quality guidelines and IPC-A-610 standards.

Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods for efficiency and ensure minimal downtime on the lines.

Will collaborate with Engineering Manager analyzing and planning workforce utilization, space requirements and workflow, including layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

Develop, maintain, and optimize programs for all SMT equipment.

Support the PCBA group by resolving problems that arise in the SMT process including solder paste printing, pick and place, reflow, SPI, x-ray inspection, AOI, Automated Storage, PCBA Wash, Ionic Tester and Selective Solder.

Ability to operate and create/update programs on all described PCBA Equipment.

Will provide training and assist operators with machine operation and setup, as well as ensure proper program performance and efficiency.

Assist in any new tool design required to support the PCBA group by developing tooling concepts.

Understand and process changes, update procedures, and test programs.

Lead operations to increase production capacity and implement new efficient processes.

· Analyze and design sequence of operations and workflow to improve efficiencies and establish methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel

· Responsible for manufacturing process development, implementation, and continuous improvement to enhance yield, reduce cost, and improve productivity.

· Experience using Lean Manufacturing Methodology, including Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events

· Evaluate operators’ tasks and responsibilities, identifying process improvements or tools to improve productivity.

· Maintain process and manufacturing documents.

· Develop process improvements for high efficiency and cost effectiveness.

· Participate in process improvement projects to improve product quality, reduce rework / scrap, decrease cost, and improve product performance.

· Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.

· Identify and troubleshoot process-related issues.

· Support daily production to ensure on-time delivery of top-quality products.

· Troubleshoot production line issues related to yield, quality, and throughput.

· Fixture and tooling design to assist with manufacturing needs and process improvements

Skills

Education/ Experience, skills, knowledge, and Certifications

3+ years of experience with Surface Mount Technology manufacturing PCBAs, SMT processes, SMT programming, (Screen Printing, Pick & Place, Selective Solder, SPI and AOI, reflow oven)
Familiarity with 13485 and AS9100 quality requirements and military specifications
Working knowledge of IPC-A-610, J-STD-001
Must be hands-on with regard to continuous improvement activities.
Possess a sense of urgency and proactive approach to problem solving.
Must be seasoned in coaching a workforce to support quality-driven, and customer focused operations.
Experience with MYDATA/Micronics SMT equipment is a plus.
Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience with ERP products (M1 experience preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in engineering electronics with 5+ years of experience in manufacturing preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Experience providing guidance and support with processes in wire & cable and systems integration environments.
Experience with the Medical Device Industry and the industry preferred.
