Roles and Responsibilities:
 
We are seeking an Eng Assoc Process Control and Instrumentation Engineer within our Global Engineering team located at either Houston, TX location. This position requires 30% domestic / global travel.

As Eng Assoc Process Control and Instrumentation Engineer, you will lead teams responsible for Multi Process Unit Industrial Gas Plants. Your responsibilities include:


• Develop Functional Execution Strategies, Project Execution Strategies, and estimates.
• Developing Junior Engineers.
• Responsibilities for team success in compliance to technical requirements, budget and schedule
• Coordinating Program level details between Units.
• Technical Scope of Process controls scope which includes Instruments, DCS, SIS, Instrumentation, F&G, PAGA, and Telecom.
 


Required Skills / Abilities:
 

  • Develop Functional Execution Strategies, Project Execution Strategies, and estimates.

  • Develop process controls execution strategies in conjunction with overall project development team (both locally and with remote engineering centers)

  • Participation in P&ID development and Operability and Hazard Reviews

  • Author, check or approve specifications of Basic Process Control and Safety Instrument systems comprised of DCS, PLC, SCADA, and Hardwired systems

  • Identify and manage process controls technical risk items.

  • Manage your project teams schedule, budget, and quality.  This team may be a local in-house design team, geographically remote engineering and design center, or an outside engineering EPC.

  • Author and Review SIL assessments and author SIL verifications

  • Produce Designs and Architectures for Standard to High reliability systems and participate in Control System Design reviews.

  • Develop Cyber Security aspects of their scope of supply. 

  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing of Process Automation equipment (DCS, Analyzers, PDC)

  • Participate in plant commissioning, BPCS / SIS validations, SAT, CSAT and startups.

  • Manage multi-unit teams that produce deliverables and report to project management about progress.

  • May participate in preparing cost estimates for Cyber Security Scope, DCS equipment, SIS equipment and labor. 

  • Develop, Debug and Commission DCS control logic in various languages including CFC, SFC, Ladder Logic.

  • Develop, Debug, Commission and Validate safety logic in accordance with vendor safety manuals.

  • Develop, Debug and Commission HMI graphics, Historian databases.

  • Develop I/O Lists including defining, I/O card layouts, instrument locations, 2-wire/4-wire analog I/O, TC/RTD types, digital/relay I/O, redundant I/O, Safety I/O, segregation of signals, power consumption, heating/cooling requirements, etc.

  • Specify, configure, and deploy OT hardware including managed switches, firewalls, fiber optic converters, etc.

  • Integrate third party devices/systems.  Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC, S7, etc. 

  • Configure and commission programmable instrumentation including multivariable flow transmitters, Coriolis meters, DP level transmitters, guided wave radars, etc.

  • Work with vendors to identify and resolve DCS related bugs and issues.

  • Tune PID loops and Optimize plant process.

 
Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with at least 20 years of applicable work experience

  • Able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the design and implementation of control and instrumentation systems for process plants

  • Experience developing BPCS / SIS architectures, control applications, and hardware specifications using Siemens PCS7.

  • Additional experience with other controls platforms is a plus

  • Must be able to demonstrate technical competence, leadership skills, communicate effectively

  • Must be able to lead and direct the work of junior engineers assigned to projects and be a technical authority in process controls

  • Must be a strong team player with a willingness to accept responsibility

  • Have good problem-solving abilities, be ambitious, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills enabling you to work well within a multi-disciplinary design team located in multiple geographies and to liaise directly with suppliers and clients

  • Travel is required, both domestic and international

  • Travel will include trips to plant sites, equipment fabricators, outside engineering firms, and customer locations (estimated at 30%)

  • Relevant practical site commissioning experience while not essential would be of benefit

  • Strong knowledge of IT related topics including TCP/IP networking, Windows PC/Server management, user administration, file sharing and Databases.

  • Thorough understanding of IEC-61508 and IEC-61511.

  • Understanding of burner management, boiler systems and their relevant national and local codes.  

  • Comprehension of I/O lists, P&ID’s, alarm and trip summaries, wiring diagrams, etc.

  • Knowledgeable with media converters, adapters, gateways, etc.
