Job Description:
Functional Title: Business Data Analyst - Risk Data Services
Role Summary:
The Business Data Analyst will support enterprise Risk Data Services (RDS) by enabling compliant, accurate, and well-governed data onboarding and data control processes.
This role focuses on data lifecycle oversight, risk and regulatory awareness, metadata onboarding, and data quality controls, rather than deep database administration or complex software development.
The analyst serves as a key liaison between business, technology, and data teams-ensuring requests are properly defined, data flows are understood end-to-end, and controls are functioning as intended.
The role carries significant responsibility and requires someone comfortable owning outcomes, coordinating across teams, and ensuring data is processed correctly within established governance frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Data Services and Onboarding
Support Risk Data Services (RDS) solutions, including onboarding of new data sources, metadata, and tenants.
Partner with internal stakeholders to intake, refine, and validate onboarding requests, ensuring alignment before data moves through feeds and pipelines.
Ensure stakeholder expectations are clearly defined and met throughout onboarding.
Support both manual and automated onboarding processes.
Data Controls and Data Quality
Execute and monitor data control framework activities, primarily focused on customer-level Level 1-2 data controls.
Ensure proper data quality, completeness, and accuracy checks are in place.
Perform root cause analysis for data issues and collaborate on remediation.
Validate that data is processed according to defined rules, standards, and governance requirements (without deep technical manipulation).
Metadata and Platform Support
Understand and document source-to-target data flows and dependencies.
Support tenant alignment and metadata consistency across platforms.
Work closely with metadata and data simulation teams to ensure requested data is:
Correctly processed on platform
Aligned with source-to-target definitions
Cross-Team Collaboration
Serve as a translator between business and technology teams-able to speak technical "lingo" while remaining business-focused.
Collaborate with technology, risk, compliance, and data platform teams.
Support cross-training initiatives so teams understand each other's services, responsibilities, and dependencies.
Assist with backfill and resource coverage efforts as needed.
Reporting and Light Development
Develop and maintain basic reporting and dashboards using Power BI.
Support internal workflow and process enhancements using Power Apps.
Read, write, and interpret SQL to validate data and support analysis (no complex development expected).
Leverage Excel for analysis, reconciliation, and data validation.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation, AI awareness, or Copilot-based solutions.
Contribute ideas that simplify manual processes and improve operational effectiveness (AI is a plus, not a hard requirement).
Required Qualifications:
5 plus years of relevant experience in data analysis, data operations, risk data, or a related role.
Proven experience working in environments with high accountability and ownership.
Experience supporting or partnering with technology teams and data platforms.
Ability to understand who owns what across complex, cross-functional processes.
Strong understanding of:
Data structures and data flows
Risk management and regulatory concepts
Data governance and data control frameworks
Technical Skills:
SQL: Ability to read, write, and validate queries (moderate complexity).
Power BI: Dashboard creation and data visualization.
Power Apps: Supporting lightweight internal workflow applications.
Excel: Advanced formulas, analysis, reconciliation.
Familiarity with metadata management, data onboarding, or data quality tools is a plus.
Not a heavy coding, engineering, or advanced analytics role.
Industry Experience
Financial services experience preferred but not required.
Experience in regulated environments (risk, compliance, data governance) is strongly preferred.
Understanding of regulatory and risk-driven data controls is essential.
Soft Skills and Competencies
Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to drive clarity in ambiguous situations.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Collaborative mindset with confidence to challenge incomplete or unclear requests.
Comfortable managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
What This Role Is Not:
Not a Database Administrator (DBA) role
Not a heavy engineering or advanced analytics role
Not deep in-the-weeds data modeling or complex coding
In this contingent resource assignment, candidate may:
Consult on or participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within Software Engineering and contribute to large-scale planning related to Software Engineering deliverables.
Review and analyze moderately complex Software Engineering challenges that require an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
Contribute to the resolution of moderately complex issues and consult with others to meet Software Engineering deliverables while leveraging solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with client personnel in Software Engineering.
Required Qualifications:
4 plus years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work or consulting experience, training, military experience, education.
Pay Range: $40 - $55 /hr on W2
