Data Quality Assurance Engineer
Location: Rosemont, IL (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

Our client, a leading provider of employee benefits, pension, and retirement services, is seeking a Data Quality Assurance Engineer specializing in ETL testing, data validation, and analytics platform support. This role is focused on ensuring the quality, accuracy, performance, and reliability of enterprise data solutions that support critical business operations and user experiences.

The Data Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for validating ETL processes within Master Data Management (MDM) systems, Data Warehouses, and analytics platforms such as Periscope Data. This individual will work closely with business and technical teams to ensure data integrity, maintain the health of existing data warehouse objects and ETL processes, and support the evolution of enterprise-wide data quality practices.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, a deep understanding of data testing methodologies, and a passion for quality assurance. This role requires both manual and automated testing expertise, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Responsibilities
Develop a deep understanding of enterprise data sources and structures.
Collaborate with operational departments to understand how data is captured, transformed, and utilized across the organization.
Become a subject matter expert in business rules, system functionality, and application architecture.
Enhance and support the existing data quality framework for the Data Architecture and Analytics teams.
Contribute to the evolution of enterprise-level data quality standards and practices.
Write and execute complex SQL queries to validate source-to-target ETL transformations.
Review business requirements, functional specifications, use cases, design, and architecture documents to develop comprehensive test plans for ETL and data migration initiatives.
Independently create, modify, and execute test plans and test cases, including:
Load and volume testing
Duplicate run testing
Negative testing with invalid data
Performance testing
Regression testing and regression suite maintenance
Provide testing estimates and timelines to support high-quality project delivery.
Participate in data migration validation activities, including reconciliation, integrity checks, and source-to-target verification.
Create and maintain testing and project documentation.
Identify, document, track, and manage defects and user experience issues.
Partner with cross-functional teams to perform root cause analysis and support issue resolution.
Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and technical teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Participate in requirements reviews, code reviews, and Agile ceremonies.
Drive improvements in Agile Scrum delivery processes and testing best practices.
Serve as a thought leader in both manual and automated testing strategies.
Identify process inefficiencies and recommend continuous improvement opportunities.
Create and manage test data manually or through automated tools and masked production datasets.
Qualifications
Experience working with dimensional data models and data warehouse architectures.
Hands-on experience with Amazon Redshift, MPP databases, or other cloud-based data warehouse technologies.
Strong experience testing ETL processes and validating large-scale data transformations.
Advanced SQL skills for data validation, data mining, troubleshooting, and foreign key dependency analysis.
Experience validating analytics and end-user reporting solutions.
Familiarity with analytics and visualization platforms such as Hex, Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools is highly preferred.
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, C#, JavaScript, or PowerShell is a plus.
Experience with regression testing strategies, regression suite maintenance, and execution.
Familiarity with Kodda or SSIS packages is a plus.
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, project-based environment with evolving priorities.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), QA methodologies, and testing best practices.
Experience working within both Agile and Waterfall environments.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
