Job Title: Office Manager (Geotechnical Engineering Leadership)
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Work Schedule: Hybrid
Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Office Manager to lead operations at our Lansing office. This is a senior leadership role, combining technical oversight, team leadership, and operational management, with responsibilities aligning closely to a Head of Geotechnical Engineering / Office Lead.
This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of a well-established office within a respected geotechnical engineering firm known for delivering high-quality services across Michigan.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Provide overall leadership for the Lansing office, including staff management, mentoring, and development
Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture with a focus on quality, safety, and client satisfaction
Lead recruitment, performance management, and succession planning initiatives
Technical Oversight
Oversee and review geotechnical engineering projects to ensure technical excellence and compliance
Provide senior-level engineering guidance and act as a subject matter expert for complex projects
Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company best practices
Operations & Business Management
Manage day-to-day office operations, ensuring efficient project delivery and resource allocation
Oversee budgets, financial performance, and profitability of the office
Drive operational improvements and implement best practices to increase efficiency
Client & Business Development
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients and key stakeholders
Identify and pursue new business opportunities to support office growth
Represent the business in meetings, proposals, and industry engagements
Project Oversight
Provide high-level oversight on a diverse portfolio of projects including infrastructure, transportation, commercial, and public sector developments
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards
Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain) strongly preferred
10+ years of experience within geotechnical engineering
Proven experience in a leadership or office management role
Skills & Competencies
Strong technical expertise in geotechnical engineering and materials testing
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage operations
Excellent client-facing and business development skills
Strong financial and commercial awareness
Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities
