Job Summary

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for assisting with or performing engineering duties which may include feasibility or sustainability studies, economic analysis of projects, emissions control equipment specifications, air emissions calculations as well as review and interpretation of analytical studies.

The Environmental Engineer plays a crucial role in promoting environmental stewardship and safeguarding our environment by addressing a wide range of environmental challenges. The Environmental Engineer’s primary responsibilities encompass designing, developing, and implementing solutions that mitigate pollution, conserve natural resources, and promote sustainable practices. Based on assigned role and responsibilities, the Environmental Engineer may be responsible for conducting thorough assessments of air, water, or soil quality, utilizing advanced monitoring and modeling techniques to evaluate environmental impacts.

Collaborating with facility personnel, regulators, and the community in which we operate, the Environmental Engineer devises strategies to reduce air emissions, energy, and water use, management of water effluent, and waste disposal, and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations pertaining to each media.

Other duties of the Environmental Engineer may include conducting regulatory applicability and compliance assessments, creating and updating compliance demonstrations, updating policies and procedures related to environmental compliance obligations, and developing and submitting environmental compliance reports to regulatory agencies. The Environmental Engineer serves as liaison between HSSE and Operations, Maintenance, Process Engineering, and other groups. Successful candidate will have ability to network with stakeholders to identify and define projects, develop, and negotiate proposals, build teams of technical staff and contractors to execute work safely, maintain quality and risk management processes to keep work on track, and deliver according to scope, schedule, and budget.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. Degree Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
Overall GPA of 3.0 or above (A=4.0) (Must provide proof of current GPA at time of hire to verify eligibility requirements are met).
2 years of experience working in petroleum refining, chemical manufacturing, or environmental consulting.
Knowledge of engineering principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
Ability to identify problems related to routine work and determine solutions.
Experience in environmental compliance, with a basic understanding of environmental regulations.
Proficiency in environmental assessment tools and software.
Ability to manage projects, including budgeting and scheduling.
Ability to manage project risks by understanding and following risk management procedures.
Ability to create and execute project work plans including staffing plans with revisions as needed.
Basic knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations pertaining to CAA, CWA, RCRA, and/or CERCLA.
Manage communications with stakeholders and project team to ensure a mutual understanding of requirements including, but not limited to, project execution, HSSE, and subcontractor management.
Assist with agency negotiations by providing technical expertise in support of the facility’s regulatory compliance efforts.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work within a team framework.
Self-motivation and ability to multi-task to analyze data, perform design tasks, maintain records, and write reports.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software tools.

Job Duties

Environmental Assessments: Conduct thorough environmental assessments to identify potential environmental impacts associated with our operations, products, or services.
Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permits.
Environmental Remediation: Develop and implement strategies for remediation of contaminated sites, ensuring safe and effective cleanup technologies and procedures.
Sustainability Initiatives: Design and implement sustainability programs aimed at reducing carbon footprint, waste generation, and resource consumption.
Air Quality and Water Management: Monitor and manage air quality and water parameters, assessing impacts and implementing corrective actions as needed.
Waste Management: Oversee waste management practices, including recycling programs and hazardous waste disposal, to minimize environmental impact.
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs): Prepare EIAs for new projects, evaluating potential environmental effects and proposing mitigation measures.
Project Management: Lead environmental projects from inception through completion, coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze environmental data, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings to stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to evaluate environmental hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks to human health and the environment.
