Project Engineer – MEP (Mechanical Focus)

?? New York, NY | Hybrid | Full-Time

Based in New York, NY with a flexible hybrid schedule.
Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
Field/site visits required (approximately 30–50% depending on project workload).

About the Opportunity
An established multidisciplinary building consulting and engineering practice is seeking a Project Engineer – MEP (Mechanical focus) to support the delivery of complex, high-rise and infrastructure-adjacent building projects across New York City. This role sits at the center of design and construction coordination, offering hands-on involvement in shaping mechanical systems from early-stage development through final delivery.

Position Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and managing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across a range of building projects. You will work closely with architects, engineers, clients, and contractors to ensure that all systems are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and code compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Design, coordinate, and manage MEP scopes of work from preconstruction through project closeout.
Collaborate with external consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure accurate and timely project delivery.
Review MEP drawings and documentation for code compliance, constructability, and coordination.
Track project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation throughout project phases.
Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and provide field coordination and reporting.
Review and process shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and related construction documentation.
Conduct engineering investigations, feasibility studies, and technical assessments.
Ensure all MEP installations meet applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Support internal reporting, documentation, and project tracking efforts.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution.

What You’ll Bring
Required:
Minimum 5+ years of experience managing or coordinating MEP systems in building design or construction environments.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience working within engineering consulting and/or multidisciplinary project teams.
Strong understanding of NYC building codes and permitting processes.
Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, Procore) and design software (AutoCAD, Revit).
Excellent communication, coordination, and documentation skills.
Preferred:
Professional Engineer (PE) license or working toward licensure.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
Additional credentials in project management, energy, or commissioning are a plus.
