Lead the design, qualification, and lifecycle sustainment of lithium-ion battery systems that
power WHOOP's advanced wearable technology. This role is critical to achieving the highest
levels of energy density, reliability, and safety in compact, high-performance form factors. Serve
as the technical lead for WHOOP's battery systems, driving development across internal
engineering teams and external partners. Drive innovation in cell design and integration to
support long-lasting, compact energy systems that meet WHOOP's demanding performance
standards. Own the batteries subsystem and ensure optimal reliability and safety under real-
world use conditions. Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, firmware, reliability, and quality
engineers to optimize battery system performance in a multidisciplinary development
environment. Lead the creation and execution of test plans, including Design of Experiments
(DOE), performance validation, and root cause failure analysis for battery-related issues.
Evaluate and qualify battery suppliers and manufacturing partners, ensuring alignment with
WHOOP's product standards and regulatory requirements. Maintain organized documentation
for test results, field performance data, and compliance with international safety and regulatory
standards (UL, CE, IEC). Ensure WHOOP's battery systems meet or exceed global safety and
certification benchmarks, supporting regulatory filings as needed. Conduct field quality
assessments and lead corrective actions for battery-related concerns. Mentor junior engineers and
contribute to technical roadmaps for future product innovation. Manage battery subsystem
development timelines and cross-functional team coordination to ensure on-time delivery of new
and sustained battery technologies. Work with firmware and Electrical engineers to develop and
optimize the fuel gauge and battery management system for the WHOOP line of products.
