Who We Are Altieri has provided mechanical electrical plumbing and fire protection engineering design services to architects and building owners for 65 years We are a recognized industry leader designing exciting and high profile projects for iconic museums galleries theatre and performing arts venues higher education buildings libraries parks and historic projects around the country including Carnegie Hall NYC Domino Park NYC Gansevoort Peninsula Hudson River Park NYC The Getty Center Los Angeles The Metropolitan Museum of Art NYC Museum of Ice Cream NYC National Aquarium Baltimore The National WWII Museum New Orleans Obama Presidential Center Chicago Smithsonian National Museum of American History Washington DC Job Overview A senior engineer works with other MEPF engineers to design building mechanical systems A senior engineer is involved in all project phases beginning with concept design and studies Responsibilities and Duties System Design CalculationsReviews andor performs system design calculations to inform design includingHeating and cooling load calculationsPipe and duct pressure calculationsPsychrometric calculationsASHRAE Standard 55 and 621 calculationsSystem Design DraftingUtilizes Revit 3D drafting software to layout ductwork piping and equipmentProduces drawing sets including but not limited to drawing notes details and single line diagramsSelects all equipment including complex equipment such as boilers chillers and air handling unitsUses knowledge of different mechanical system types dust collection kitchen exhaust steam systems etc to inform designGains familiarity with control systems and sequences of operationEdits outline and book specifications to fit project needsLife SafetyPerforms life safety system calculations includingElevator Machine Room exhaust design and calculationASHRAE Standard 15 calculationStair and elevator pressurization calculationsPost fire smoke purge system design and calculationsLocates equipment for atrium exhaustDesigns systems to maintain required fire and smoke rating fire and smoke dampers locationsPlaces duct and equipment smoke detectorsConstruction AdministrationReviews submittals RFIs contractor estimates and potential change ordersAttends construction meetings as requiredProvides thoroughly researched and technically correct responses to RFIs and answer questions from the design and constructions teamsSustainabilityCompletes building certification eg LEED documentationParticipates in sustainability meetingsConsiders energy impact when implementing designsDesign CoordinationCollaborates with fellow Altieri engineers of all MEPF trades to progress project designIncorporates basic knowledge of other MEPF trades into designsCollaborates with clients other consultants and contractorsProactive when troubleshooting to avoid conflictsConsiders constructability and maintenance requirements of designsClient InterfaceActively participates in client meetingsResponsive to client requests to provide designs within the contract agreementWorks with client to identify alternative designs to support the architectural visionCodeReferencesUses international and local building codes to inform design and calculationsApplies energy codes to design and calculationsReferences ASHRAE handbooks to inform design and calculationsResearches alternatives to traditional design prescriptive methods when necessaryLeadershipProvides guidance to entry level and project engineersProject Management if applicableExecutes Altieris obligations under the contract agreementCoordination Coordinates project effectively across all tradesClient Interface Serves as primary point of contactFinancials Manages budget schedules and billing Prepares additional service requestsConstruction CA Oversees construction process of projectAdditional tasks as requestedEducation and Experience Bachelors degree in mechanical or architectural engineering or similar field10 years of relevant experiencePE license preferredProficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Autodesk RevitAltieri provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race color religion sexual orientation gender identity marital status national origin age handicap disability or status as a veteran This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment including but not limited to hiring placement promotion termination layoff recall transfer leaves of absence compensation and training Further any form of unlawful employee harassment based on any of the above factors shall not be tolerated
