**Company Overview:**
Our client is a leader in the mining and infrastructure industry, with a strong focus on productivity and sustainability. Their advanced engineering division, based in Metro Vancouver specializes in designing and developing heavy-duty battery-powered electric drive systems and supporting infrastructure. The team is dedicated to creating proprietary EV components at the PCB level and delivering complete turn-key systems, including battery packs, vehicle structures, a world-leading dyno, and proprietary firmware and control systems for drive motors, chargers, controllers, DC/DC converters, and battery management systems.
They are seeking a Verification \& Validation Engineer to support system-level validation of next-generation electric mining equipment.
**The Role**
As a Verification \& Validation Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring electrified systems meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. You will develop and execute structured V\&V plans across high-voltage systems, power electronics, and vehicle-level integration.
Working cross-functionally with firmware, systems, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams, you will ensure requirements traceability, structured validation evidence, and compliance with functional safety standards.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in hands-on testing environments while maintaining strong documentation and traceability practices.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Develop system- and component-level verification \& validation plans aligned with product requirements
* Define validation procedures, test protocols, and acceptance criteria
* Maintain requirements traceability from specification through verification evidence using ALM tools (e.g., Polarion, Jama, DOORS)
* Support functional safety validation of safety functions to ISO 13849 Performance Level (PL) targets
* Perform fault injection testing and diagnostic coverage verification
* Contribute to DFMEA, PFMEA, and reliability growth planning
* Execute validation testing using facility infrastructure including:
* Vibration and shock testing
* EMC/EMI emissions and immunity testing
* High-voltage testing (insulation resistance, hipot, HVIL validation, contactor behavior, fault response)
* Environmental testing (temperature, humidity, ingress, thermal cycling)
* Instrument vehicles and subsystems using DAQ systems, thermocouples, strain/vibration sensors, and high-voltage measurement equipment
* Conduct failure investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action validation
* Generate structured technical documentation and validation reports
**Required Qualifications**
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Systems Engineering
* Experience in verification \& validation, test engineering, or reliability testing within electrified, industrial, or heavy-duty equipment environments
* Practical familiarity with:
* High-voltage DC systems and electrical safety practices
* Vibration, environmental, and EMC testing methodologies
* Instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and troubleshooting complex integrated systems
* Understanding of functional safety principles, particularly ISO 13849 Performance Levels
* Strong technical documentation and structured validation reporting skills
**Preferred Qualifications**
* Experience with battery-electric vehicles, mining equipment, or off-road machinery
* Knowledge of functional safety standards (ISO 13849, ISO 26262)
* Familiarity with BMS, traction inverters, charging systems, HV interlock architecture, and insulation monitoring
* Experience with test automation, scripting (Python, MATLAB), HIL systems, or model-based validation
* Background in field testing within harsh or remote industrial environments
* Progress toward or attainment of P.Eng registration is considered an asset
**Compensation and Benefits:**
* $95K-$115K depending on experience.
* Dental Care
* Disability Insurance
* Life Insurance
* Extended Health Care
* RRSP Matching
* Wellness Program
* Free onsite parking
