Job Description

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Enterprise Data Engineering \& Analytics Department. The Data Engineer plays a pivotal role in operationalizing critical data engineering and analytics initiatives that support digital business priorities. This position focuses on building and testing end-to-end solution delivery, including developing data pipelines within the Context Engine, while partnering across enterprise teams to deliver production-ready analytics for key stakeholders. The Data Engineer collaborates with Principal and Senior Data Engineers and Information Systems teams to enable integrated data solutions that drive faster access, reuse, and improved time-to-insight.

The Data Engineer ensures adherence to data governance, security, and metadata standards while enhancing scalable and reusable solutions across integrated platforms. The **ideal candidate** will bring a Master's degree in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field, along with **experience with Profisee Master Data Management (MDM) or similar MDM software, development and configuration.** Strong SQL background with database modeling and scripting expertise. A Profisee certification is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a collaborative mindset, technical proficiency, and the ability to support enterprise-level data initiatives.

**Responsibilities**

**Data Engineering -- End-to-End Solution Delivery**
• Participate in end-to-end solutions to increase information capabilities and realize data value
• Integrate data governance processes across ingestion, ingress, egress, curation, transformation, and modeling
• Support tracking of data provenance, security, quality, ontology, and visualization outputs
• Collaborate on planning, architecture, design, and build of enterprise data pipelines
• Contribute to existing pipelines managing data from acquisition through consumption
• Develop repeatable solution designs and standardized data models
• Build pipelines for profiling, cleansing, transforming, mastering, and validating data
• Monitor and improve data quality across the Context Engine
• Incorporate metadata management and governance into pipeline development
• Promote automation of repetitive integration and preparation tasks

**Standards, Testing \& System Maintenance**
• Adhere to IS division procedures and UT MD Anderson policies and build standards
• Prepare and maintain documentation for enhancements and new technologies
• Follow change control processes and support audits as needed
• Perform quality control testing and review peer builds for technical accuracy
• Assist with system updates and new releases for assigned analytics modules
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on system improvements
• Participate in after-hours support and downtime procedures

**Education and Training**
• Train data scientists, analysts, and end users in data pipeline and preparation techniques
• Assist in creating training plans for Context Engine tools
• Develop curriculum in partnership with system experts and training teams
• Deliver departmental and one-on-one training on analytics deliverables
• Support customer relationships and provide effective technical solutions

**EDUCATION**

* Required: Bachelor's Degree
* Preferred: Master's Degree Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related.

**WORK EXPERIENCE**

* Required: 2 years Clinical, relevant healthcare information technology, or relevant business experience. or
* Required: With preferred degree, no experience required.
* May substitute required education with years of related experience on a one to one basis.
* Preferred: Experience building out MDM Solutions (Master Data Management), configuring and developing Profisee, strong SQL background including database modeling, scripting.

**LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS**

* Required: EPIC - EPIC Certification Must obtain at least one Epic Data Model certification (Clinical, Access, or Revenue) issued by Epic. within 180 Days
* Preferred: Profisee certification.
