#### Job Description
Lead Mechanical Engineer -- Gas-Fired Power Projects
====================================================
The Opportunity
- --------------
A Houston EPC organization is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to guide the development and execution of simple-cycle and combined-cycle power facilities. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer who understands both the science behind plant systems and the realities of procurement, fabrication, construction, and start-up.
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be accountable for the quality and coordination of the mechanical design while serving as a central technical resource for project managers, clients, equipment manufacturers, and other engineering disciplines.
Primary Responsibilities
- -----------------------
* Lead mechanical engineering for gas-fired generation projects from feasibility and front-end definition through detailed design and commissioning.
* Establish the design basis for gas turbines, steam turbines, heat-recovery steam generators, and mechanical balance-of-plant systems.
* Direct the development of piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment arrangements, system descriptions, line and equipment lists, specifications, and mechanical data sheets.
* Oversee systems such as feedwater, condensate, cooling water, fuel gas, compressed air, water treatment, drains, and other plant utilities.
* Perform or validate heat-and-mass balances, hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, pressure-drop evaluations, and system performance analyses.
* Coordinate equipment interfaces and resolve gaps between OEM packages and balance-of-plant design.
* Prepare technical procurement requirements and lead the engineering evaluation of supplier proposals.
* Review vendor calculations, drawings, manuals, and data for compliance with project requirements.
* Facilitate design reviews, model reviews, constructability assessments, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
* Monitor mechanical deliverables against project schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
* Provide engineering support during fabrication, site installation, testing, and start-up.
* Respond to construction questions and develop technically sound solutions to field conditions.
* Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, and reliability-improvement initiatives.
* Provide direction and technical development to mechanical engineers and designers.
Required Qualifications
- ----------------------
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum of 10 years of mechanical engineering experience supporting power-generation or comparable industrial facilities.
* Substantial experience with combined-cycle or simple-cycle plant design.
* Strong knowledge of turbines, HRSGs, piping systems, and mechanical balance-of-plant equipment.
* Demonstrated understanding of thermodynamics, fluid flow, and heat-transfer principles.
* Experience coordinating engineered equipment with overall plant design.
* Familiarity with ASME, API, ANSI, and other relevant mechanical design requirements.
* Ability to lead technical discussions and make timely engineering decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- -----------------------
* Professional Engineer license.
* Experience working with major gas turbine, steam turbine, or HRSG manufacturers.
* Background in EPC, engineer-procure-construct management, or design-build execution.
* Familiarity with AutoCAD, SmartPlant, Aspen, MATLAB, or similar engineering applications.
* Experience supporting operating plants, outages, commissioning, or performance testing.
Performance Expectations
- -----------------------
The person selected will be expected to protect design quality while keeping engineering aligned with procurement and construction. Practical judgment, disciplined documentation, and early identification of technical risk are essential.
