Software Engineer, Staff: Applied AI, Science & Engineering

Job Description

Build and harden agent harnesses, research workflows, scientific tool integrations, and evaluations that enable Claude to perform verifiable science and engineering work. Collaborate with partner experts to define problems, prototype and deploy solutions, create reusable tools and processes, and communicate model performance and limitations to internal teams and stakeholders.

Requirements: Requires 8+ years of software-building experience, strong engineering fundamentals across the stack, and experience building systems with large language models, agents, tool use, or evaluations. Candidates should be able to work directly with expert users, turn ambiguous technical problems into verifiable tasks, communicate clearly, and deliver in startup-like environments; relevant science or engineering experience is a strong plus.
