We are looking for a technically skilled Toxicologist to lead the complex biocompatibility requirements of our global business. The role calls for an inspiring leader whose guidance is underpinned by a deep technical understanding of biocompatibility and analytical chemistry.

Technical Leadership
The primary requirement of your role will be using your considerable toxicology expertise to establish the biocompatibility of our devices. You’ll be accountable for good toxicology outcomes across respiratory products used in both the home and hospital, made with a wide range plastics, silicone/elastomer moldings and textiles.

The role calls for first-hand insight into the most up-to-date methodologies required by global regulatory bodies (such as the FDA). You will work to set up strategic relationships with these groups and with external laboratories, evaluating technical alternatives and suppliers.

The “engineering” part in this role is important: it is less being an engineer or having a degree, and more about being able to apply your expertise to an engineering context. It means you will bring your hard-won wisdom to the table, demonstrate how it applies to our devices and processes, and that you will make the cross-functional teams better with your ideas, direction and mentoring. It means you will take responsibility for our toxicology work because you want our products to succeed and to help others.

People Leadership
The second aspect of this role is leading people. As well as technical prowess you will be a compelling communicator and trusted advisor to the company, reacting well to ambiguity and tight timelines with grace and wisdom. As the lead voice of toxicology within ResMed you will work both within your team and externally with a range of stakeholders who will need to trust your judgment and advice.

You will work with your team to pre-empt upcoming regulatory landscape shifts and collaborate on a roadmap of ongoing research and development. Additionally, as a senior member of your team you will help ensure the quality and accuracy of their output (both written and oral). Finally, you will need to provide support for project teams comprising project managers, design engineers, and regulatory managers.

Let’s talk about you:

At ResMed a Lead Toxicologist is a new and unique position, so we expect you’ll have 10-15 years of experience working on challenging projects. You will know a lot about: biocompatibility, analytical chemistry, product development, international standards, development of test methods, and protocols and reports. You will have excellent understanding of risk analysis and assessment and FDA compliance standards.

You will need a qualification in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, life sciences or medical sciences or something similar. Preferably, you will also qualify for professional certification (i.e. DABT, etc) and have experience in the medical device industry, TGA, or FSANZ, etc

The team:

The team provides internal consultancy for ResMed globally. The 5 engineers have overlapping responsibilities and discrete specializations, but work as a team. Core team competencies are toxicology, biocompatibility, reprocessing, materials, manufacture and test methodology. They share tasks and roles, grow ideas and learn together.
