Associate Specialist - PATH - UC Berkeley


California Partners for Advanced Transportation Technology (PATH), a research program of the University of California, Berkeley, is seeking an Associate Specialist to assist in research of Human Factors Studies for Intelligent Transportation Systems (e.g., Changeable message sign on corridors)

Appointment length:
Twelve months, 100% time appointment. Anticipated start date: September 15th, 2017.

The specialist’s main duties and responsibilities consist of preparing project documentation (e.g., reviewing literatures), contributing to experiment design, preparing and pilot testing experiment set-up (e.g., simulation and apparatus for data recording), conducting in lab and on the road testing, conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and writing report.

Basic Qualifications at the time of application:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Engineering or related field

Additional Qualifications by start date:
2 years’ professional experience in Human-computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors, or similar field. Experience in a range of user research methods (e.g., surveys, interviews, lab studies. Mastery of usability evaluation tools for recording and analysis. Mastery of common data analytic techniques and data visualization.
End-to-end experience with all aspects of research (recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting). Research experience in driver related studies or comparable experience in a similar field. An established portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables.
Demonstrated English writing and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or equivalent degree in Engineering or related field
Ability to learn and operate new apparatus (e.g. driving simulator)

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on UC Berkeley salary scales.
