Mechanical Knowledge and Accountability

Mechanical engineers will be responsible for design and specification of building HVAC (hydronic and air) systems, plumbing (water, gas, waste, drain) systems, mechanical control systems, and energy calculations. Mechanical engineers should be familiar with directly- and indirectly-governing codes and standards, sustainable construction practices, coordination practices such as electrical and structural impacts, and connection coordination with commercial food service, pool and spa, and other third-party consultants. Mechanical engineers will also have a generalfamiliarity of other mechanical-type building systems such as fire suppression and smoke control systems.

This primary accountability of this position is to deliver a coordinated design through thorough and proactive communication with the internal and external design teams. The position will develop the project design criteria, perform necessary engineering calculations for design and mentor junior designers as they assist with the design process.

Primary Collaborative Team

Operationally, this position is part of a project design team and reports to the project manager, senior designers and engineers, and the service leader of their discipline. This position collaborates closely with a broad group including project team members, other project managers, senior project managers, business unit leaders, Principal in Charge, service leaders and the accounting team to provide a consistent quality and delivery process to our clients.

Experience Profile

  • Thorough understanding of, and experience in, this field.
  • General understanding of all BG services.
  • Experience in customer-facing discussions around delivering this service.
  • Experience working in teams of 3 to 10.
  • Strong understanding of BG's design tools, software, drafting methods and BIM models.
  • Experience coordinating multi-discipline models, design and model changes.
