Job Description

A BMET who usually has a W/o-year degree or higher in Medical Equipment Technology. Has good knowledge of schematics and works independently on repairs, safety testing, and preventive maintenance (PM). Maintains records, writes reports, and coordinates outside repairs. Average experience is 4-6 years. Has knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment.

Uses traditional engineering expertise to analyze and solve problems regarding the design, development, and safety testing of biomedical equipment. Serves as the principal action officer for maintenance related acquisition support, fielding, and sustainment of medical laboratory equipment, contact patient monitoring systems, and digital imaging/radiographic equipment.

'Ensures that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with Federal, State, and/or applicable regulatory requirements; implements quality control standards, and maintains budget and vendor relationships.

'Performs biomedical equipment maintenance and repair.

'Performs maintenance cycles, to include but not limited to calibrating, repairing, inspecting and overhauling military inventory of various types of medical equipment.

'Performs technical inspections of new, used or reconditioned Army medical equipment. •Performs preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices and systems.

•Determines associated support items of equipment in order to perform scheduled services and maintenance repairs and calibration; supply support and provisioning requirements; and training requirements.

•Manages special operations fielding support.

'May provide mentoring of other BMETS.

'Monitors sustainment support.

•Assists on various special projects for medical equipment systems.

'Participates in the development of performance specifications for medical equipment systems and maintenance regulatory policies.

'Identifies elements and requirements for improving the maintenance posture of medical equipment.

Monitors equipment data collection apparatus and subjects during tests and evaluations. 'Responds to inquiries and answers questions relating to technical and operational applications.

•Prepares necessary support documentation and purchase requisitions of parts.

•Prepares special or periodic reports, records, documents and correspondence.

•Performs other related duties, assigned or required.
