Job Description


Purpose:


The purpose of this position is to be proficient in the operation of all analytical testing equipment used for chemical analysis.  


 


Essential Functions:  


 


  • Performs chemical analysis of the facilities metal powder products.
  • Calibrates and maintains equipment, as well as diagnose problems when they arise. Operates and maintains the Carbon/Sulfur and Oxygen/Nitrogen determinators.
  • Operates and maintains the Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP).
  • Documents the calibration and maintenance of said equipment.
  • Prepares customer certifications when requested or required
  • Proficient in maintaining all analytical testing equipment.
  • Accurate and efficient in in the analysis of data and the generation of the associated reports, in the logging, documenting, and tracking of samples.
  • Accurate and efficient in the sample preparation, as well as the safe handling of chemicals.
  • Provides training to less experienced personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the QC Lab supervisor or QA Manager

 


 


Non-essential Functions


 


  • Ensures laboratory gasses are kept at adequate levels. Change tanks as required.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas for cleanliness and efficient operation.
  • Support, QA Manager, and/or Technical Service Manager in various tasks and studies as assigned.
  • Clerical duties such as filling reports

 


 


 


 


 


 


 


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Ability to operate and maintain all chemical analytical instruments.
  • Ability to correct and/or develop proper ICP test methods and procedures.
  • Ability to make bench standards and maintain the standards library. Must be able to determine detection limits and precision testing.                      
  • Must be computer literate, and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work under strict time deadlines and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines.
  • Organized, flexible and have the ability to work independently of others. Must conduct his/her business in professional manner at all times.

 


 


Education:


 


Bachelor degree in Chemistry, plus two to five years laboratory experience preferred.  Recent college graduates and/or equivalent technical skills will be considered.


 


 


 


Working Hours and Conditions, including Travel Required:


 


  • Carbon/Sulfur determinator, oxygen/nitrogen determinator, Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer, ovens, hot plates, balances, pipets, volumetric flasks, computers and other testing equipment as assigned.

 


  • The laboratory environment involves chemicals and fumes: appropriate safety precautions need to be taken.

 


  • Dusts contain: Nickel, Chrome, Cobalt, Iron, Copper, Silicon, by products of combustion; welding gases, organic compounds, metal powder dust, solvent fumes.
  • Chemicals include: Nitric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, and Hydrochloric Acid.                                                                                                                                                                                      

 


  • The facility requires and provides: steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, dust / chemical half mask respirator, gloves and special gear when needed or required.  Alcohol / drug Free work place
