Job Description

OVERVIEW: Manufacture products at a quality to meet customer, employee, and company expectations. This will be accomplished by performing duties in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner. This Chemical Engineer will 'own' a specific area/unit from production process engineering to daily fire-fighting of the area, both equipment and people.

  • Performs review of work for potential losses and loss control opportunities.
  • All activities of this position will be consistent with the Plant’s loss control objectives.
  • Develops and manages a skilled workforce of chemical operators.
  • Operates in a safe (injury-free) manner, promotes safe behaviors and risk-aware culture.
  • Maintains environmental compliance of assigned area(s).
  • Continuous reduction of operating costs by improving CpK’s.
  • Minimizes working capital.
  • Organizes and documents high-volume data.
  • Investigates and documents loss incidents.
  • Documents and measures standard cycle time and tracks asset utilization for assigned areas.
  • Analyzes labor utilization and helps foreperson schedule manpower to minimize overtime.
  • Provides necessary training required by law and the company.
  • Ability to embrace and promote change.
  • Ability to teach operators and forepersons to assume responsibility.
  • Assures completion of scheduled training.
  • Drives continuous improvement in the process by using statistical process control and visibly displaying SPC charts.
  • Ensures preventative maintenance tasks are done on time and in compliance with the PM schedule.
  • Departmental shutdowns are scheduled and required tasks are completed.
  • Daily equipment inspections are completed.
  • Supports and develops capital planning objectives.
  • Ensures MOCs are documented with approvals.


Engineer with hands on process/production engineering background in chemicals processing.  This person will act as a "Process Owner/Unit Owner" making sure unit is running smoothly technically, improving yields, coordinating with maintenance, working closely with foreman and operators.  Often called upon to handle numerous complex tasks simultaneously, never a dull moment.
