Job Description

Overview

The Computer Automated Design (CAD) Operator (Part-Time) provides drafting and design support. This position utilizes CAD and Visio software to assist project and design managers in the development of telecom design documents and exhibits for client deliverables. Additionally, the position manages and maintains a repository of drawing documents and stencils and is responsible for the producing and distribution of the drawings for the projects.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Provides Computer Automated Design (CAD) support for telecom design drawings including floor plans, room layouts and elevation drawings.

Ensures CAD and Visio services are provided to meet daily customer needs.

Assists in the development of telecom design and specification documents.

Maintains and procures CAD and Visio objects.

Maintains a current and accurate repository of architectural and CAD drawings to support distribution and updating of the project documents.

Maintains an accurate repository of as-built CAD and Visio drawing documents of project spaces.

Provides customer service functions for drawing print outs, email of PDF’s, update drawings, floor plan book submittals, specification submittals and other administration project support.

Assists project and design managers with document layout, drawing, printing and formatting.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. 

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers.  Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.  Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Associate’s Degree in Technical Design and Drafting or related field and a minimum of one (1) year experience in CAD design and drafting and manual preparation / interpretation of engineering drawings and technical illustrations; or equivalent combination of education / experience. Experience in Visio design for Room Layouts and Elevations. Some knowledge of Revit software allowing viewing and some design changes. Experience working in IT spaces preferred.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Working knowledge of Microsoft Productivity Tools, CAD design / drafting and technical illustrations, and Visio design

Knowledge of current technological development / trends in area of expertise

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Highly organized and extremely detail-oriented with ability to quickly grasp business needs and issues

Ability to prepare engineering documents, specifications and estimates for projects

Ability to prepare architectural plans using Auto-CAD drafting techniques

Ability to view Revit drawings and some ability to manipulate the drawings.

Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to manage workload and time effectively

Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
