We are seeking a Senior Materials Process Engineer for our Corporate Office in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Develop process and participate in the molding trials for new product launches.
Complete performance evaluation in production of new materials developed by R&D group or suppliers.
Complete performance evaluation in production of new material trials for Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) manufacturing plants.
Recommend steps for improvement of new materials to R&D group.
Assist molding plant in launching new materials and new product by developing the process
Process optimization of current product in production to improve the efficiency and reduce scrap to budget.
Use of Black Box to monitor the molding process for process optimization and trouble shooting
Develop process for new and unique test methods for evaluating a particular component or scenario.
Troubleshoot, root cause analysis, and optimize material and process issues at pilot and plant level.
Manage and conduct tests, trials, and DOE's in the laboratory and manufacturing environment.
Collect, organize, and analyze data into professional technical reports and present in Meetings
Development of manufacturing processes for molding and secondary operations.
Support and interact with business and material development for R&D, internal, and external customers
Conduct advanced laboratory tests on full production components and materials including the preparation of samples for molding, bonding, cutting, use of power tools, and other physical manipulation.
Utilize specialized analytical instrumentation, heavy machinery, and large molding presses
Advanced testing of thermoset and thermoplastic reinforced plastics and materials as needed.
Train Material and Process Engineers in department or within the company at various facilities.
Supervise other Materials and Process Engineers as needed.
Provide technical information in new product launch.
Completion of a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Chemistry. Preference to concentrations in Organic/Polymers and Plastics sciences.
At least five years of materials process engineering experience preference to composite material or plastics.
Experience with bonding equipment, paint application, compression molding presses, and vacuum systems.
Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, and Minitab
Must be hands-on, an independent problem solver, and comfortable with changing tasks and work environments
Must be productive and supervise when needed
Good communication and interpersonal interface with all employees in a production environment
Working environment will include office, laboratory, customer site, and manufacturing environments with heavy machinery. Travel is required, must be willing to travel more than 50%.
