Job Description

Our office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Plant Engineering group.


In this role, your responsibilities will include:


Research, develop, and design a variety of equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial and industrial purposes.  Functions as a technical specialist formulating and developing advanced concepts, techniques, and standards.  Responsibilities include assuring effective utilization of engineering personnel and technical quality. Most assignments or performed with minimal guidance.


Essential Functions:
•Generally, functions as the discipline lead on a project; specifies mechanical equipment, ensures technical accuracy, tracks schedule and budget, initiates and tracks engineering changes relative to the project scope of work and represents the discipline at project meetings.
•Participates in developing the scope and/or design criteria for proposals and providing mechanical engineering man-hour estimates for proposals or as otherwise needed.
•Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project team.
•Supervise and provide technical guidance to mechanical personnel assigned to the project team.
•Ensure adherence to client and/or company specifications, governing codes, design criteria and good engineering practices.
•Ensure that the technical content of the inquiry/PO is appropriately reviewed, approved and transmitted.
•Accomplishing engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations and piping estimates.
•Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
•Monitor the effort and manhour budgets, staffing plan, and schedule to ensure that the project objectives are met, and execution is within the approved budget.
•Responsible for reporting on mechanical/piping status to the project manager and department manager and perform weekly assessments of progress.
•Establish the mechanical equipment list and maintain the technical and status content through regular updates.
•Coordinate and cooperate with the lead engineers of the other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of information on the project team and to align with the project requirements.
•Establish and maintain proper interface with client’s representatives throughout the life of the project.


Qualifications:
•Recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited College or University.
•8-10 years’ experience with Engineering design of chemical plants and or oil and gas production facilities
•Working knowledge of applicable codes (ASME, API, ASCE, etc.).
•Familiarity with various project phases and scope/deliverables required.
•Ability to read, understand and develop P&ID’s.
•Experienced in flexibility and stress analysis of piping systems.
•Ability to prepare cost and resource estimates.
•Experienced in handling multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritizing tasks.
•Ability to prepare equipment specifications, evaluate bids and review vendor drawings for technical accuracy.
•Willing to travel to the job site and meet with clients as necessary.
•MS office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
•Excellent oral and written communications skills required.
•Registered professional engineering license required.
