Acara Solutions (formerly Superior Group) is assisting our aerospace & defense client in the Redmond, WA region. This is a salaried direct position with full benefits.
U.S. Citizen a must.
Summary: Responsible for the mechanical design of a wide variety of products including guided munitions, solid propellant gas generators and inflation systems using Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.

  • Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling and analysis (e.g., thermal and stress).
  • Responsible for mechanical part selection and creating initial BOM, cost model and assembly drawings. Also creates detailed drawings of parts for manufacturing using GD&T.
  • Collaborates with other functional teams in the organization that analyze designs or tests a prototype.
  • Works closely with the manufacturing team to assure DFM principles are used early on in all design projects.
  • Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and are under version control in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Creates technical reports and documentation for design reviews and customer reviews.
  • Documents design reviews and distributes minutes if required.
  • Demonstrates and promotes teamwork and cooperation with team members at all levels in the organization to solve problems and improve processes.

    Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or Aeronautical Engineering
  • Min 5 years of experience in the design and testing of aerospace hardware
  • Min 4 years of experienced in the design of aerospace hardware, including at least 1 year in mechanical systems and gas generation devices.
  • Min 5 years of experience working with engineering drawings as required by ASME Y14.100M.
  • Min 7 years of experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Min 5 years of experience in CREO, Pro-E or Solid Works or other cad package (Windchill 11 preferred)
  • Min 3 years of experience in critically evaluating test data results and formulate recommendations hardware design improvements.
  • Min 5 years of experience with Microsoft Office
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to government contractor
  • Preferred:
  • Knowledgeable of properties and application of aerospace alloys.
  • Knowledgeable of special processes and process control requirements including welding, brazing, and metal finishing.
  • Experience with DFM or Design for Lean Six Sigma (DFLSS) principles.
  • Familiar with principles of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, gas dynamics, strength-of-materials, thermodynamics and packaging for high shock environments.
  • Ability to create technical presentations and status reports for DoD customers.
