Job Description

This opening is withArconic – Whitehall Research and Development, a division of Arconic Engines – aworld leader in the investment casting of superalloys, performance coatings,and forging and ring rolling for high performance parts primarily for jetaircraft and industrial gas turbine markets.

This position will leadefforts to develop and implement the next generation of technolgies used inequiax/directionally solidified and single crystal invesment casting, turbineengine coating systems, and nickel based superalloy and titanium alloy forgingand ring rolling processes.  Thisincludes leading efforts in ceramic core and investment casting shelldevelopment, wax material and injection development, casting processdevelopment, forging process development, ring rolling process development,tooling, and inspection technology and data science.  The candidate will lead a group of engineersand technicians to apply ceramics and materials science, injection molding and materialsprocessing and property experience to solve ceramic material, solidification,forging and ring rolling issues by identifying root causes and implementinginnovative solutions.  The candidate musthave a demonstrated track record of leading cross-functional teams of R&Dengineers and technicians to develop materials processing solutions, and workingwith manufacturing personnel to implement material and process improvements.

The candidate must have good interpersonalskills, communication skills and be able to interact effectively with alllevels of the organization and our customer base.   The candidate must be able to listen tocustomer and manufacturing needs and develop and execute research anddevelopment programs to meet those needs.


  • MS in Ceramics, Materials Science, Metallurgyor Materials Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • A minimum of 10 years work or post-graduateresearch experience related to ceramics, solidification, forging or ringrolling processes or engineering of materials used in gas turbines such asnickel-base superalloys or titanium alloys.

  • A minimum of 5 years of leadershipexperience (people and financial responsibility).

  • Employees must be legally authorizedto work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time ofhire.  Visa sponsorship is not availablefor this position.

  • This position is subject to theInternational Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. personstatus. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident(i.e. "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • PhD in Ceramics or MaterialsScience/Engineering.

  • Strong communication, analytical anddata processing skills.

  • Experience leading a group of diverseengineering disciplines to develop and implement new technologies.

  • Experience with ceramic and metals processing,and proven understanding of gas turbine materials, their processing andinspection.

  • Experience in people leadership andmanagement both at the central R&D facility and positioned withinproduction facilities, and project development and management from ideacreation to implementation with limited supervision.
