The Instructional Technologist supports university-wide efforts to foster, facilitate, and support the effective use of new and existing instructional technologies to enhance teaching and learning, The Instructional Technologist specifically collaborates with faculty to identify and integrate the use of mobile and other technologies that enhance teaching and learning for on-campus and distance based programs, support innovation, and promoted student engagement and success.
Advise and support faculty in development of new teaching and learning strategies using best practices, quality standards, effective instructional design strategies and innovative tools that promote student engagement and success.
Consult with faculty to plan, design and develop instructional technology projects. Initiate ideas, implement solutions, and find resources, both technical and discipline specific.
Conduct and coordinate pilots of new technologies to leverage and support innovations in teaching and learning (iPad initiative, lecture capture, etc.). Support campus wide initiatives and work collaboratively with academic leadership.
Collaborate with faculty in the design and development of online and blended courses using university approved quality assurance standards and guidelines. Provide consultation on pedagogical and course design strategies using accepted blended and online design standards.
Provide advanced-level support and training on the learning management system tools (Moodle) or similar technology through a variety of methods.
Work with faculty to design and produce high quality digital learning objects including media rich content, web based interactive simulations, tutorials, audio and video, and online assessment tools for a variety of devices.
Develop, conduct and evaluate a variety of professional development opportunities in person and online for faculty to build skills with new applications, new hardware and develop digital teaching and learning materials. Provide opportunities for faculty to share successes and learn from one another.
Develop and produce online reference materials, guidelines, training materials, tutorials and supporting documentation to guide use of instructional design best practices and ensure course materials are accessible and compatible on a variety of devices.
Provide support to administration of enterprise systems such as learning management systems (LMS), lecture capture systems, academic content repositories, and mobile device management.
Research, explore, pilot, and evaluate existing and emerging mobile technologies that support teaching and learning goals.
Develop strong relationships with academic and technology departments throughout the University to explore new hardware and software tools, obtain resources, and advocate needs that impact faculty and student use of academic technology.
Continuously explore new and emerging technologies (software and hardware, mobile, etc.) that will enhance online teaching and learning. Facilitate idea sharing to explore new tools for online teaching and learning.
Master's degree from regionally accredited institution with at least 3 years' experience in areas related to instructional technology or instructional design.
Teaching experience in an academic setting (K-12 or higher education).
Knowledge of best practices, current research and innovations in the use of instructional technology.
Experience with a variety of instructional and mobile technologies.
Knowledge of instructional design principles and teaching and learning theories; experience with learning management systems.
Experience with instructional design and working directly with faculty.
