Job Description

Our client is currently seeking a Director of Engineering. The Director of Engineering shall be capable of leading the engineering and quality departments of a plant that manufactures and loads explosive and pyrotechnic devices for the DoD. This will require having previous experience in a leadership role and having previous experience working on DoD prime contracts. The engineering and quality departments include Process, Design, QA, R&D, and Systems engineering capabilities.

This job will have the following responsibilities:

  • Safety focus and successful utilization Safety requirements as expected by the company, DOD and DCMA
  • Mitigate and resolve any and all Safety matters that may negatively impact business in conjunction with business partners and stakeholders
  • Strategic vision and ability to plan for the future program success
  • Establish overall objectives and initiatives of Engineering/QA Department
  • Help develop product enhancements and improvement of products/process'
  • Drive process improvements through lean six sigma philosophies
  • Manage the planning and designing of methods to improve or enhance existing programs
  • Oversee analysis and review of budgets and schedules to determine the most cost effective and efficient methods of obtaining necessary resources
  • Develop and recommend revisions or enhancements to schedules, human and monetary resource allocations and production requirements
  • Ensures projects are completed on time
  • Acts as advisor to production/operations team
  • Maintain good employee relations, and adherence to Affirmative Action Plan, Labor Laws, and EEO rules and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 10 years of relevant industry experience
  • Five years related experience in DOD explosive and/or ammunition related area
  • Lean experience (preferably Black Belt Certified)
  • Mechanical knowledge in design and fabrication of assembly tooling/automated equipment using CAD/DAM desirable
  • Working knowledge in PLC programming
  • Demonstrated expertise in a variety of field concepts, practices and procedures
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Good decision making skills 10.Good organizational skills
  • Proficient with MS Office and ability to learn additional software applications as the need arises
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop others
  • Ability to follow projects through to completion
  • Results oriented
  • Strong project management skills
