The Environmental Engineer is responsible for assisting the Environmental Manager ensure that environmental compliance is maintained by preventing pollution from a large, fully-integrated Kraft pulp mill.
What you need to succeed:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or Bachelor's degree Environmental Science or other engineering or science degree and experience in environmental compliance at a manufacturing facility or as a consultant.
Proficient computer skills (including MS Office, most importantly Excel and Microsoft Word)
Willing and able to walk and work in an industrial location indoors or outdoors, including walking up and down steps and ladders with all safety equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves, steel-toed shoes, etc.)
Eligible to work in the United States

Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skills
Good oral and written communication skills are required to accurately discuss items with sensitive legal implications and communicate those issues with regulatory personnel.
How you will impact WestRock:
The Environmental Engineer will be required to perform any of the following work functions:
Coordinate sampling, reporting and training associated with regulatory permits (NPDES process wastewater, NPDES storm water, water withdrawal, Title V Air Operation).
Manage waste programs including solid, hazardous, universal wastes and reuse/recycling.
Work with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to obtain and maintain permits.
Prepare a variety of regulatory reports which include data collection, calculations, accurate recordkeeping and an adherence to regulatory deadlines.
Establish, write and communicate programs and policies to comply with regulatory programs.
Conduct training to both hourly and salaried personnel.
Support operations in the functioning of the environmental controls systems, including the wastewater treatment plant and air pollution control devices.
Back-up the Environmental Chemist to conduct daily wastewater treatment rounds and analytical testing of final effluent in his absence.
Participate in the on-call duty rotation. Approximately every four weeks, in rotation with other Environmental Department team members, participate in weekend call duty.
When on call duty, check air regulatory alarms and CEMS calibrations, check wastewater treatment plant and deep well operating data, provide status reports to Mill personnel via email, and remain on call to respond to emergencies.
