Job Description

Major chemical company has an excellent opportunity available for a Production Manager in the Omaha, NE.  This position will manage a staff of 28-employees including Engineers.  The Production Manager is responsible for the operations management related production and for the day-to-day staffing of a chemical processing plant in Nebraska.  This role is accountable for all aspects of plant performance and will ensure that objectives are attained in a safe, ethical and cost-effective manner consistent with quality requirements and standards.  This position reports directly to the Site Leader and supervises the production technicians and run plant engineers while working with reliability, automation, and maintenance to enhance the operations of the manufacturing facility.

 

Primary Accountabilities/Continuous Improvement:

  • Direct Production Engineers, lead Operating Technicians, and Production Technicians to improve quality and quantity of pounds produced.
  • Drive accountability of direct reports.
  • Develop operating budget and operating plan to meet budget target(s).
  • Manages the efficiencies of the plant which will enable company to be the partner of choice for customers focusing on plant efficiencies, process improvements, operation costs, emergency management, and staffing.
  • Takes advantage of business opportunities while making continuous improvements.
  • Works closely with Automation Engineers on utilization of automation systems as primary tool for capturing most effective technology of plant operations. 

Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in chemical or manufacturing engineering preferred.

  • Five years of operations experience in a manufacturing industry; preferably related to polymers.

  • Experience in administering and/or managing an effective and proactive safety program.

  • Ability to engage a high performing team.

  • Thorough understanding of ensuring the safety of manufacturing areas and work practices in accordance with the site EH&S programs.

  • Good interpersonal skills and able to communicate with all levels of management, hourly and salaried employees.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence others that don’t have a direct reporting relationship.

  • Able to multi-task, prioritize and manage time efficiently.

  • Strong leadership and management skills.

  • Promotes cooperation within the team and between teams.

  • Demonstrates speed and flexibility as appropriate in responding and adapting to changes.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a challenging and developing environment; willingness to take on new responsibilities as our business evolves.

  • Working knowledge of SAP preferred.

  • Experience in plastics, chemicals, polyethylene, polypropylene, thermoplastics, HDPE, LLDPE, LDPE, extrusion; compounding would be a plus.
